Local Healthcare Organizations Unite for Patient Safety Awareness Week: 'Moving the Needle' Towards Safer Care

Nationwide, USA — As part of the global initiative for Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW), healthcare organizations across the United States are coming together to actively participate in an annual campaign spearheaded by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). This year’s theme, "Moving the Needle," emphasizes the shift from mere awareness to actionable steps aimed at enhancing the safety of patients and care teams.

The Center for Patient Safety (CPS) has chosen this theme to encourage a transformative approach, urging healthcare professionals to reflect on their contributions and identify future actions to improve care delivery. PSAW, which runs from March 9 to 15, serves as a moment for healthcare entities to celebrate achievements, recognize contributions to the patient safety movement, and plan future strategies.

"Patient safety is a shared responsibility," said Lenore Henning, President at The Beata Clasp. "We are all safer when we work together. This week is not only about highlighting past successes but also about engaging our community in meaningful dialogue and action for continuous improvement."

Throughout the week, healthcare providers—including hospitals, EMS agencies, nursing homes, and other care facilities—will host a series of events designed to engage staff, patients, and families in the conversation about patient safety. Activities may include workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions aimed at empowering everyone involved in healthcare to ask, "How can we work together to make care safer?"

The Center for Patient Safety encourages all participating organizations to tailor these activities to best suit their unique environments and cultures, ensuring that efforts remain fun, impactful, and reflective of their commitment to patient safety.

In recognition of these efforts, The Beata Clasp invites all community members to join in celebrating the strides made toward safer healthcare environments. By fostering a culture of safety and collaboration, we aim to move the needle closer to the safest care possible.
